As a software development student I have a passion to new technologies. I have made a research on an iPhone X and I’m going to share the results in this post. I have reviewed an iPhone X based on its physical characteristics, RAM, operating system and have disclosed some unique features of the phone. 

Physical characteristics

With the iPhone X, Apple has introduced a display that has minimal bezels for an all-screen design. Aside from a slim bezel that covers the edges of the device and a front notch that locates the front-facing camera, speaker and sensors, display is all you see when you look at the iPhone X. There is no bottom bezel, no Home button, and no Touch ID fingerprint sensor. The dimensions of the phone are:

• Diagonal is 5.8 inch
• Height is 5.65 inches (143.6 mm )
• Width is 2.79 inches (70.9 mm )
• Depth is 0.30 inch (7.7 mm )

The weight of the device is 177 grams (Apple 2019). So, the gadget has a size that is comfortable for a person to take the device in hands. The front and back of the phone are made of surgical-grade stainless steel to improve durability and the device has a glass case (Apple 2019).

iPhone X carries an IP67 certification. IP stands for “Ingress Protection,” which is the rating system for the dust- and water-resistance of electronic devices. The device is considered to be entirely dust-proof and this is pretty awesome. As for water resistance, an iPhone can be fully submerged in water as deep as 1 meter for a period of up to 30 minutes (Fitzpatrick 2017). This means that it’s water-resistant, but not waterproof. In other words, it’s fine if you spill your drink on the phone, but you should be careful with the saltwater or the chlorine in pools that could damage the device.

The talk time is up to 21 hours, internet use is up to 12 hours, video playback is up to 13 hours and audio playback is up to 60 hours. iPhone X is fast-charge capable which means it can be charged to 50 percent battery life in 30 minutes (Apple 2019).

RAM

iPhone X is available with either 64 or 256GB of storage. The device features 3GB RAM (Apple 2019). Every Apple gadget has an access to iCloud where users can store their photos, videos, files, notes and other stuff. By default all devices have 5GB of free iCloud storage. If it is not enough, Apple provides an opportunity to purchase additional storage. iPhone X doesn’t have another expandable storage, but users still can temporarily add some storage using a Lightning drive. It is a device that has the same functionality as regular USB drives, but with a full-size USB connector on one end, and some flash storage in the middle to keep the files, photos and videos. The interesting part is that they have a Lightning connector opposite the USB connector, so you can plug them into an iPhone easily. (Mossberg 2014). To copy and keep photos and documents on the Lightning drive users should use a free iOS app that is available in the Apple Store. 

Operating System

Operating System of iPhone X is iOS. The original OS of iPhone X is iOS 11.0.1, but the current one is iOS 12.1.4., that was released on February, 7. (Apple 2019). iOS 12 has brought some improvements for the performance of devices. With the updated OS a swipe to Camera has become a 70% faster and the keyboard display has become 50% faster. Photo suggestions have been added to the Messages app. This feature makes suggestions based on who you are messaging with and what you are talking about. (Chowdhry 2018). It might seem that the changes are not significant enough, but they have made the customer experience much more positive and comfortable. 

Unique features

Face ID. Face ID is a new facial recognition system that replaces the Touch ID fingerprint sensor used for authentication purposes in earlier devices. In many ways, Face ID is just like Touch ID, except it uses a facial scan instead of a fingerprint. It does all of the same things, like unlocking your iPhone, allowing access to third-party passcode-protected apps, confirming purchases, and authenticating Apple Pay payments. (Apple 2018).

Animoji. The TrueDepth camera enables a fun new feature called “Animoji” aka animated, 3D emoji characters that you control with your face. Animoji can be shared with friends in the Messages app as stickers and as videos, and you can even add your own voice to make them talk.

To create Animoji, the TrueDepth camera analyzes more than 50 muscle movements in different areas of the face, detecting movement of the eyebrows, cheeks, chin, eyes, jaw, lips, eyes and mouth. All of your facial movements are translated to the Animoji characters, making them reflect your expression and emotion.

In conclusion, iPhone X has such weaknesses as being quite breakable and not completely waterproof. However, the device is definitely worth its money because of its high performance, modern design and unique features.
